Project Title: | Effects of different Environmental Factors and Food Types on toxin productions rates in Dinophysis species from Geographically Diverse Regions |
Abstract of Project : | |
Several species of dinoflagellates within the Dinophysis genus are responsible for the vast majority of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) cases. DSP is a major health and economic problem for many countries reliant on shellfish resources for nutrition and commerce. My Fulbright project will look in to the influence of environmental factors on toxin production rates through laboratory experiments taking advantage of a recent breakthrough that now allows Dinophysis species to be cultured in the laboratory. |
